Potable water pipes · PP-R Type 3

PPRC Pipes

Our PP-R systems, produced from pure Polypropylene Random Copolymer (Type 3) raw material, offer more than 50 years of safe use in hot and cold water lines with their hygienic structure that does not alter the taste or odour of water. Thanks to their smooth inner surface, they do not scale or rust; with their foil-laminated and glass-fibre reinforced composite options, they also provide energy efficiency and minimum thermal expansion.

General information

PPRC pipes and fittings

Plastherm PPRC pipes and fittings are produced from Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PP-R Type 3) raw material. They are designed for in-building hot and cold domestic water plumbing, radiator and combi boiler systems, underfloor heating distribution lines and industrial applications such as compressed air. Because of the monomer structure of the raw material, no biological matter can harbour within it; it does not impart colour, taste or odour to water. Under recommended operating conditions, its service life exceeds 50 years.

The Plastherm PPRC pipe family is produced with three different body structures. All are joined with the same polyfusion welding method; the main difference lies in thermal expansion behaviour, longitudinal stability and oxygen barrier properties.

Advantages

Key features

  • Provides durability for up to 50 years at 20 °C; withstands short-term temperatures of 95 °C.
  • Joined by polyfusion (thermal) welding; a monolithic connection of the same structure as the pipe is formed at the joint, and it does not leak.
  • It does not corrode or suffer electrochemical wear; no scaling or rusting occurs.
  • The smooth inner surface (friction coefficient 0.007) prevents sediment build-up and keeps pressure loss low.
  • With a thermal conductivity of 0.24 W/mK, the pipe is self-insulating; heat loss is far lower than with metal pipes.
  • Highly resistant to many acidic and basic chemicals.
  • It is hard to ignite and does not release toxic gases when burning.
  • It is light, easy to cut and carry, and installation labour is short. It is recyclable and environmentally friendly.
